Happy Monday! It is B.C. Day here today so we get to enjoy an extra long weekend. Summer has finally arrived and it has been soooo nice to have the sun back! I think an afternoon by the pool will definitely be in our future!
Over a year ago now, I posted about our front entryway organization. I have been sprucing things up a little bit over the past couple of months and am finally getting around to sharing it with you.
Over a year ago now, I posted about our front entryway organization. I have been sprucing things up a little bit over the past couple of months and am finally getting around to sharing it with you.
I wasn’t really planning on re-doing things but, like everything else, one project always leads to another!
I started out painting the storage bench with some Annie Sloan chalk paint in Pure White. I had been eying up the “Our Nest” pillow in one of our local stores for a few months and once the bench was done, I just knew I had to have it!
Once the bench was painted, I decided that the front door needed a paint job too. We have oak mouldings {I am trying to convince my husband that they should be painted white!} and the door had an odd stain color that didn’t really match anything. I love the iron detailing in the door and thought that painting it black would really make it pop.
I realize this is actually the outside of the door but the inside is now the same color and I could not get the detailing of the door to show up when the door was closed. See the oak mouldings along the wall? What are your thoughts on painting them white? It would be a HUGE project to do as we have a very open floor plan so the whole house would be need to be painted. They would also be extremely expensive to replace if we didn’t like it. But, I still want to do it…
On the other side of the door, we used to have a basic shoe rack. I hated seeing all of the shoes out in the open so I ended up buying the Stall shoe rack from Ikea. {I actually really wanted this one but they did not have any in stock at the time and did not know if they would be receiving any. Of course, they now have it in stock}.
I added the vinyl numbers and some chalk board vinyl to the side. Due to the height of our baseboards I did not add the feet to the bottom of it and just secured it to the wall. The cabinet stores up to 18 pairs of shoes although we have just mostly been using the bottom two for shoes and have a few other items {a couple of umbrellas, hats, and a scarf} in the top.
I found the metal tin at a local vintage fair and added the Bienvenue {purchased fromAntique Graphique which has tons of amazing downloads for a dollar} using this simple wax paper transfer technique. The ink transferred fairly well to the metal and I just touched up a few spots with a thin Sharpie marker.

Ooh, great idea for the tin holder for keys and such. I make my hubby put them in “his drawer” in the living room sideboard 🙂 We’re currently painting our trim white in the house–it’s currently oak, in bad shape, and just basic builder grade trim, though. I don’t know if I’d be gutsy enough to paint your nice, wide trim! If you do, though, I would applaud you. I always feel relieved when someone else does what I’m not brave enough to do!

I am jealous and i am in love! Oh how I need to reorganize our front entry, I hate that it opens straight into the living room… shoes… oh shoes, I luv them yet I cannot stand seeing them by the door! No matter how hard we try they always end up there… may need to replace my huge basket of shoes with a lovely IKea shoe holder like yours… then perhaps that will lead to an entire re-do of the living room! New follower!

I would leave the trim, already I am seeing stained wood projects everywhere. I am sure within a year or 2 everyone will be scraping all their painted furniture so they can stain it,and that way you’ll be ahead!
