I have always loved reading a good book but it is definitely one of those activities that I have done less and less of over the years as time becomes harder to find. I’ve never been really good at just reading a chapter or two per night – I kind of get obsessed with my books and can’t seem to put them down until they are finished. But recently I have started to get back into reading more {in a “less obsessed” way!} and try to find at least half an hour each day to enjoy some quiet time with my books.
I like to keep any current books that I am reading {and those that I plan on reading in the near future} beside my bed as that is where I do most of my reading. I had an old wicker basket that I was using for this prior to re-doing our master bedroom. It didn’t really fit in so well though once the room was completed.
So…I ended up painting it white with some of my left over DIY chalk paint.
It was still missing something though and I finally added this little chalkboard sign to it.
I just took a scrap piece of wood, spray painted it with some chalk paint when I was doing the boys’ Lego table, and drilled a couple of little holes.
I then just attached it with some baker’s twine. Because everything seems to be better with twine.
So now I am looking for some more books to fill it with. Any great recommendations for me? We are heading away this weekend so I would love to bring something new along.
Enjoy your day!

I love the basket! As a Language Arts teacher my house tends to get taken over by books, most of which are teen lit. Now I’m thinking a couple baskets in a couple rooms could be the solution. As for suggestions, have you read Still Alice or Sarah’s Key? Those are two recent reads that I really enjoyed.

I love this idea too. I read every night before I sleep. It relaxes me and clears my mind. I have done this for a long as I can remember. Sometimes I am reading more than one book so I would love to keep several by my bed. Thanks.

I just finished ‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’by Garth Stein. It was recommended to me and it did not disappoint. It’s a lovely story told from the viewpoint of a dog, filled with inspiration and hope. Sarah’s Key, as mentioned, is also great!

I’m the same way with my books – IF I get a chance to read I get really into it and don’t want to put the book down. I love what you did with the basket.

Very nice, I really need to do this for my room. I do the same thing with books. Even though I do have a kindle, I still have a nice pile by my side of the bed. By the way that bar stool is really cute as well.
