The chalk board used to be this cork board.
I liked the design of the cork board but didn’t really find it very functional and the cork wasn’t very thick. So…I flipped the cork board over and added some chalk board spray paint to the back {I ended up using about 4 coats}. Using the Silhouette, I cut the pennants from some Echo Park paper and strung them up with twine. I used chalk pens to draw on the calendar {seriously these are SO much better than chalk!!}. I am on the lookout for a green one to match the pennant but had to settle for purple for now. 🙂
I was tired of always pulling our yearly calendar down from the wall to write in it for the upcoming months so we keep that in the desk drawer {for easy access!} and have our monthly calendar on the chalk board.
There are three drawers in the desk {as well as the keyboard pullout that we use to store our calendar}. I went searching around the house for storage containers and ended up taking some clear storage cubes from the desk downstairs that weren’t being used. I also had the light blue tray from years ago {I think it was a candle holder} and found those round molds when I was cleaning out my cupboards. I am assuming that they are supposed to be for pastry but I really have no idea where I got them from and why I actually had them!
The bottom bin is for the kids activity books and a few card games.
The most functional part of this command center for me is probably this mail organizer. Once the mail is opened, all bills or other documents that I need to keep go in the File slot until I get a chance to get to them.
The Send slot is for forms or letters that need to be mailed away.
I also have a few little drawers that I use for coupons, our personal phonebook, and school forms and letters for the kids.
I usually have a giant clothes peg “To Do” list hiding in the corner.
But I have decided to temporarily replace it with my Spring Tree!
And there you have my kitchen command center!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! My boys are all away and I am currently sitting here having ice cream for dinner at 9:00 at night and enjoying the calmness!
