Dress up your kitchen for summer with these beautiful summer kitchen decorating ideas! Easy tips that anyone can do!
Summer Home Tour Blog Hop
Today I’m joining Marty from A Stroll Through Life for another beautiful summer home tour series. We’ll be hopping from house to house on this one so just follow the link at the end of the post to continue on with the tour. I love being able to get a little glimpse inside everyone’s homes and see all of the different styles and design ideas. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, and get inspired to do a little summer decorating of your own. And please always remember that the photos are never quite as perfect as they seem!
For those of you coming over from Inspiration for Moms – welcome! Laura has such a lovely home and makes even the most simple decor ideas look pretty. If you haven’t had a chance to visit her, be sure to pop by!
Summer Kitchen Decorating Ideas
I thought that I would share our summer kitchen with you today. I’m pretty much always changing something around, but this is how it looked last week anyways! 🙂
We did a kitchen makeover a few years ago now and painting the cabinets white really brightened everything up. It’s a nice neutral background to change things up each season! If you’re hoping to add some summer charm to your kitchen this year, here are a few of my favorite summer kitchen decorating tips.
Deep Clean as You Go
I know a lot of people don’t really think of decorating their kitchen each season, but just a few simple changes keeps things fresh and updated. Switching things around is also a great time to do a little deep cleaning in those areas that you don’t always get to. Be sure to keep a microfiber cloth and some summer scented all-purpose cleaner around as your decorating to give everything a good wipe down!
Keep Things Functional
The kitchen counter is prime time real estate, so don’t try to add too much! No one wants a cluttered kitchen. When possible, save your counter space for items that are both pretty and functional. One of my favorite places to style, is actually beside our kitchen sink. I’m always switching up cleaning products and trying to display them in pretty ways.
Our little herb garden is also a pretty but useful little decor item. We have basil, rosemary, and a couple of types of mint growing. I wasn’t sure if it was going to get enough sun in the back corner but it’s doing pretty well so far. I’ve put it out in the sun for a few hours on days that I water it – some fun in the sun for our herbs!
Use Trays
Group similar items together onto a tray to keep things tidy and organized. Trays also make it a lot easier to clean down the kitchen counters as you can just move the tray instead of moving a bunch of little items. You can always add some seasonal touches too if you have room. On a side note, I’ve had that Magnolia cookbook for well over a month now and still haven’t tried anything. Do you have a favorite recipe from it that I should start with?
Add fresh flowers or greenery
I don’t always get a chance to have fresh flowers out, but even a single stem can make an impact! I had bought some peonies for our living room but saved one for the kitchen. It kind of worked perfectly with our pink peony Mrs. Meyers soap!
Add Some Art
A photo frame takes up minimal counter space and adds a pretty seasonal touch {and a little color!} to your kitchen. Grab your favorite print, family photo, or this free summer printable, for some quick and easy decor.
And if you don’t want a print, you can always use a chalkboard. I kept this one really simple to go with the towel {totally not weird coordinating your chalkboard with your kitchen towel, right?}, but I’ll probably end up changing it up again at some point.
Create a Seasonal Centerpiece
Our kitchen table is probably the one thing that gets dressed up the most. I’m always moving things around the house and changing up the centerpiece. A few weeks ago, it was filled with lilacs from our backyard. I don’t think there’s anything that smells better than some fresh lilacs. I loved getting a little whiff as I walked by!
Once the lilacs were finished blooming, I had to fiind something new for the centerpiece and planted some flowers in this {faux} vintage truck that I picked up from Decor Steals.
I hope that gives you some ideas to add a little summer to your kitchen space and shows you how easy it is! We spend a lot of time in our kitchens, so we might as well make them warm and inviting!

You have such a beautiful kitchen! I love the idea of grouping items onto trays; we have an area by the sink where our concrete counter top is really taking a beating from water accumulating under the soap bottles and I bet a tray would solve that problem. Such a simple solution I never would have though of. Pinning!

So simple and beautiful! I love the pink flowers matching the soap bottle. I rarely have fresh flowers in my home (unless it’s mothers day or my birthday, lol) but I have no problem using faux flowers! Will have to be on the look out for some flowers to use in my kitchen now 🙂 Thanks for sharing
Jenn Lifford says
We don’t always have fresh flowers either, but it’s so nice when we do! Our lilacs are out in bloom right now so it’s free flowers from the yard!

I love the berry basket by your sink that you use to hold the soap and sponge? Could you tell me where you got it and hopefully it is still being made! Really love your posts!
Jenn Lifford says
I got it from Target a couple of years ago. It was part of the Magnolia collection so I doubt they still have it. I’ve seen some similar ones at Hobby Lobby though. You can also search ceramic berry baskets on Amazon- there are some nice options but I can’t find any with the handle.
Kim says
I love your sink decor! Do the right of the sink I see dish soap. What do you have to the left of your sink?
Jenn Lifford says
Just some additional soap as well as sink cleaner and hand cream. 🙂
