DIY Spring Basket Wreath Tutorial
Last fall I picked up this hanging basket to use as a wreath for our front door. I knew it would be easy to change up for the different seasons and I’ve had lots of fun playing around with it already. I started out with a fall design, changed it up for Christmas, and am now switching things up for spring!
Materials
- faux greenery. I like to use a mixture of trailing greenery and other stems that are more upright. Look for stems that can be shaped to help give your wreath more structure.
- spring florals.
- ribbon
- seasonal sign {mine was purchased at Michaels}
- wire
- twinkle lights
Instructions
- I like to start with the trailing greenery and then build my way up towards the top of the wreath. Add in the larger pieces of greenery and then begin to add the florals and smaller greenery into the gaps. Play around with bending and molding the branches until you achieve the look that you would like. {NOTE: My basket is really narrow so the stems stay in place nicely once it’s filled. If you have a thicker basket or bin, you may need to use a little bit of floral foam to keep everything in place.}
- Add a seasonal embellishment to the front of your basket. I attached a little Easter sign that I picked up at Michaels with some thin wire and then added a couple of strips of some polka-dot ribbon. After Easter, I’ll probably leave the rest of the basket up and then just switch out the sign for a nice big ribbon bow. {You can see my easy way to make a bow out of ribbon here.}
- Add some twinkle lights. This is optional, of course, but I just love some pretty twinkle lights! I use battery operated ones that have an automatic on/off switch so they come on just as the sun starts to go down. It’s such a nice, soft glow to come home to!
And that is all there is to it – I hope you give it a try! Everything can be put together in about 20-30 minutes depending on how elaborate you go with the embellishments, and you pretty much can’t go wrong with whatever you fill it with.
