Next to Christmas, fall is my favorite season to decorate for. I love the colors and the coziness that it brings. It just makes you want to snuggle up under a blanket and grab a warm drink.
Adding some fall to your home doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive, or time consuming, so give it a try! Today I’m joining some blogging friends to share some simple fall decor inspiration with you. There are lots of wonderful ideas so be sure to check out the links at the end of the post.
I thought that I’d show you some simple fall decor ideas that I used to dress up our dining room. All of the tips can be applied to any space and can be done within 10 or 15 minutes. If you check out our fall home tour, you can see that I used many of the same ideas in our front entry, kitchen, and family room.
Let’s get started!
Use natural elements.
Since fall is the season of the harvest, it’s the perfect time to gather up pumpkins, apples, gourds, or other seasonal crops to display in your home. Or take a walk outside and gather some fall leaves, pinecones, or acorns. We have a couple of wonderful apple orchards around us so I always make sure to grab some extras to use for decor. We just eat them and replace as needed!
Pumpkins are also a personal favorite of mine and it’s fun to use some of the different varieties. I usually grab a bunch from the pumpkin patch and then pick up a few bags of the baby boos from our local grocery store. Place them in bowls or baskets, or add them to a hutch or mantel. Add a few berry sprigs or fresh leaves and you’ll have a beautiful display!
Use fall printables or other artwork.
There are so many beautiful prints available these days and you can find many free printables online. All you need to do is choose what you like, print it out, and display. I added my u-pick apple printable to a canvas from the dollar store and quickly framed it with some 1x2s {you can find the print and tutorial here along with links to 35 other free fall printables}, but you can always just simply add it to a photo frame.
If you use a print in a frame, keep it in the frame for storage in the off-season and just rotate your prints around as the seasons change. You’ll only need one minute to switch things up each holiday! You can find the free fall printable displayed below {and more!} HERE.
Add chalkboards.
Chalkboards are lots of fun to work with and you can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like with your designs. You also don’t need to worry about having to store them in the off-season – just keep them up year round and change up your artwork. I added a small chalkboard to this book page wreath and keep it up year round with just a quick swap of the design each season.
Put together a fall beverage bar.
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I love to make up a little beverage bar each season. Fall is all about the apple cider for me {like my warm cranberry-apple cider or apple cider slushies}, but you can do a hot chocolate bar or coffee bar with some seasonal flavors such as pumpkin spice or cinnamon.
Add some color to tie the space together.
While I am usually drawn more to neutral tones, it’s hard to stay away from all of those beautiful fall colors! It doesn’t take much to really make an impact. I used some orange berry twigs that I cut apart with wire cutters and layered them throughout the room in the centerpiece, hutch, and a couple of other small vignettes. It creates a cohesive look with those fall pops of orange!
Light it up.
Who says lights just have to be for Christmas? Add some battery powered lights to your fall displays for some added warmth and coziness. I like to purchase ones with a timer so you can just set it once and then have them come on for a few hours every night without having to remember to turn them on and off.
