One of my favorite quotes is “Remember the little things in life, for someday they will be the big things.” Sometimes we get so caught up in the craziness of life that we forgot how important those “little things” are. The sweet, spontaneous “I love you” from one of the kids, funny dinner conversation, or those goodnight stories in bed. These are the things that really make up our lives and this is what I would like my kids to remember when they get older.
So, I decided that every night {well almost every night!}, I would take a minute or two to write down one “little thing” from the day. It could be a funny quote, a favorite activity that one of the kids is really “into” at the moment, or a little milestone that was reached. Really, anything that depicts our day to day life. It is kept right beside my bed and is the last thing that I do before I go to bed.
If you scrapbook, this journal is great to keep track of ideas for pages that you would like to do. If you don’t scrapbook, the journal would be a great keepsake for your children when they are older.
Here is my old journal – just made from some scrapbook papers and ribbon.
It’s quite funny to go back and read some of the old entries {this one was started in 2008}. It really is amazing how many things you forget!
I kept the new journal much simpler and I really wanted to incorporate the quote. The book was just bought at a dollar store and I used vinyl cut from my Silhouette for the letters. {Stickers would work too!}
Oh – remember to check which is top and bottom before you add the letters! My book is actually upside down {whoops!} It just adds character, right?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and have some time to jot down a few “little things”!

I saw this journal entry on the link on ShabbyChicCottage. My children have been adults for years – they are probably older than you are currently, but I kept a journal of cute expressions they had, exciting events, etc while they were growing up. You will be so surprised when you read these journals 20 years down the road. I “found” my seven journals when putting Christmas decorations away in the garage this year. I sat right down and relived some wonderful years by reading them one after another. It’s a great idea to be aware of these things and then write it down. I’m glad I did!
