Welcome back to part two of our summer home tour! Today I’m joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for her summer home tour series. There are 30 beautiful homes on the tour this week, all filled with unique and creative summer decor ideas to inspire you for the season. You can find all of the links at the end of the post so be sure to check them out!
If you’re coming over from Quarters One – I’m so glad you could stop by! I’ve always dreamed of having a little beach house, and I love Shand’s beachy, cottage vibe.
A couple of days ago I showed you our summer dining room along with some easy ideas to add some color to your summer decor.
Today, I’m bringing you into the kitchen for a bit of a softer, more muted look. I still wanted to add color, but I went with a mix of pinks, yellows, and greens. I hope you enjoy the tour!
How to Create a Pretty Summer Kitchen
Today I wanted to share our summer kitchen decor with you along with some seasonal decor tips that you can try in your own kitchen. These can be applied to any decor style and used for at any time – no matter what the season!
Start Fresh
Whenever I switch up our seasonal decor, I always try to start with a good deep cleaning. Since I’m taking down and switching around our decor pieces anyways, it’s the perfect time to give everything a good wipe down. It’s also a good reminder to do all of those deeper cleaning tasks that don’t always get done on a regular basis. I use this seasonal kitchen cleaning checklist and try to work my way through the tasks over a few days. I don’t necessarily do everything on the list, but it’s good to run through.
Clear the clutter.
I love adding seasonal decor to our kitchen but I also like to keep our counters fairly clutter-free. {You can find all of my tips on how to keep your counters clutter free HERE}. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use trays to corral all of your items together. I have almost everything on our counters contained on some kind of tray. Whether it be functional items like our kitchen utensils…
…or mason jars for our smoothie bar ingredients, there are lots of inexpensive tray options.
Dress up the sink.
I always dress up our kitchen sink each season with a few pretty {and functional!} touches. It just takes a couple of minutes to do and makes washing dishes a little more enjoyable. A small tray, cutting board, or cake stand works well to hold dish soap, hand soap, scrub brushes or any other kitchen sink necessities. Add one or two simple seasonal touches, and you have the perfect display.
For our sink display, I used a cake stand for our dish soap and hand soap. To keep wet messes in check, I added a measuring cup to use as a little bowl for our scrub brush. The vase holds some faux branches that can easily be switched up for any fresh flowers or clippings from the yard.
Display some art.
I always enjoy switching up our artwork each season. We have one frame on the counter and another couple of frames hanging by our kitchen table. You can use favorite seasonal photos, find art that has colors or images that you love, or look for free printables that go with your decor and style.
I went with softer, muted tones for our kitchen accent colors this summer, so I created a couple of new printables to go with the rest of the decor.
This is the other one that’s hanging by the door – I just couldn’t get a good photo of it.
I’ll be sharing these new printables on the blog soon but you can find some of my other summer printables HERE, HERE and HERE. I like to store all of my seasonal prints in the photo frame throughout the year and just rotate them around as needed. Super quick and easy!
Add a seasonal vignette.
Depending on the size of your kitchen, create one or two spots for your summer decor to create a pretty vignette. I use this space at the end of our kitchen counter as it’s the least used counter space.
Since counter space is such prime real estate, I try to use useful kitchen pieces in our seasonal displays. This one holds items to make lemonade as well as some dessert bowls, our ice cream scoop, and kitchen towels in pinks and yellows.
Freshen up with flowers.
Summer is one of the easiest times to add flowers or fresh greenery to your decor! While it might not be possible to have fresh flowers all the time, they’re definitely a nice little indulgence. To stretch your flowers further, break them up into smaller little bouquets and place them throughout your home. Just a couple of peonies adds such a nice fresh scent!
I hope you enjoyed your visit and are inspired to add a few fun summer touches to your kitchen this summer! if you have any questions about anything, just let me know. For those that are new around here and would like to stay in touch, you can always find me here…
