Happy October! It’s time for some master bedroom organization! This month we’ll be working on cleaning and organizing the master bedroom as part of The Household Organization Diet. With the weather changing, it’s the perfect time to declutter and organize your clothing and swap out those summer sheets for more cozy fall and winter bedding.
The master bedroom should really be a place that you can just relax and unwind after those long days. Take some time this month to really go through everything that you currently keep in your bedroom and get rid of those items that you no longer use or love. Re-locate items that should really be stored elsewhere and donate items that you no longer need. If you need some help with overcoming that decluttering paralysis, check out this post to help get you motivated and this one for some tips and tricks to get you started.
How to Organize the Master Bedroom
Are you ready to get started on your master bedroom? Before you get started, I recommed heading over to this post to get a free printable master bedroom to do list. I’ve listed everything you need to get your entire master bedroom cleaned and organized from top to bottom.

I’ve also found a few organization ideas to help get your creative juices flowing. Just remember to do a thorough decluttering before you actually start the organization process. You only want those items that you use and love!
Use the space under your bed to store out of season clothing or extra linens. If you can’t find a bed with built ins like the one below, add some flat storage bins that can easily slide in and out from underneath the bed.
Look for side tables that provide extra storage. A mix of open and closed storage will let you hide away those necessities that aren’t so pretty while still allowing some room for you to display your favorite treasures. This use of an IKEA Expedit is such a clever idea!
Use large baskets to store extra pillows from the bed when not in use or spare throw blankets. I think that layered bedding and pillows really make the whole room more inviting and I love all of the different textures that you can add. Remember though, if you aren’t able to find the time to actually make your bed {or you just don’t want to!}, keep your bedding more minimal to avoid the extra clutter.
If you have a desk or other small work space in your bedroom, be sure to keep all of the items related to it well organized and contained in its own specific area. You definitely want to keep the work and rest space clearly defined!
Add a comfy chair to curl up and read a book or use for getting dressed.
I love this simple cozy corner too…
And finally, I just wanted to show you this bedroom. Because, well, I absolutely love it and am wishing for those ceilings!
Be sure to check back later this month for more tips and ideas for organizing the master closet! I’ve got some updates that I can’t wait to show you!
Happy Organizing!
