Plans have been in the works to do some updating in our living room for a long time. It’s just one of those projects that I’m not quite sure what to do with, so I end up doing nothing. Please tell me you have those projects too…
About a year ago, we did finally get around to updating our fireplace and mantel – you can read more about that HERE and see some of the before shots. We also had the room repainted with Benjamin Moore Old Soul.
Then, a few months ago, I finished up our rustic wooden crates {that I had actually built last summer}. Since that time, the room has kind of been at a stand still, however, while I was on the hunt for a new carpet. Our previous area rug was just a 5×7 and was way too small for the room. I was going big this time and looking for a 9×12…
After literally over a year of searching, I finally decided on this wool carpet. I am always extremely nervous ordering products on line that I have not seen in person, so I had my fingers crossed that I would like it. When it came, I loved the design but was expecting it to be a little thicker and was kind of disappointed that it was bunching up so much. Rug Pad Corner to the rescue…
Rug Pad Corner manufactures natural felt and rubber rug pads right in the USA. Their organic pads do not contain any chemicals or adhesives {that are common in other rug pads} due to their unique heat pressed method of creating them {you can learn more about that here}. This means that the rug pad will not emit any smells or off-gas and will not stick to or discolor the floor {which I unfortunately have had in the past with another rug pad in the kitchen!}. No chemicals and no adhesives is my kind of rug pad – just check out how thick this is!
After learning what kind of rug I had and what floor surface I would be using it on, Rug Pad Corner recommended that I get the ultra premium felt and rubber rug pad for hard surfaces and carpets. All you have to do is give them your rug size, and they will cut it down the pad for you so there is no overhang. Once I received my rug, I just unrolled it on the floor with the rubber surface facing DOWN and the felt side facing UP {this would be reversed if you were placing it over carpet} and placed my rug over top.
I wish you could feel what a difference this rug pad makes – it is so luxurious and my feet are so very happy! In addition to the comfort improvements, the carpet is no longer bunching up and literally does not budge {even when our dog and kids are tearing around over it!}. I also like the added protection that a rug pad provides to both the area rug and the floor – because we all know that spills will come!
So now that I have my rug pad, I guess I will need to move onto the next step and figure out what I am going to do with the furniture. Maybe in another year I will have an another update for you! 🙂
For more information on Rug Pad Corner, you can visit their website to find out what would be the best rug pad for you. I have been extremely happy with ours and I love that I am not bringing any additional chemicals into our home. Go check them out!
And if you have any suggestions for me in terms of furniture and layout, I would love to hear that too! 🙂

That carpet is beautiful! We have a 5×7 rug in our living room as well, and it is rather small, but its mostly to keep the dogs off the real carpet as best we can – potty training a puppy has not been kind to our floors!
The rug pad looks fantastic though! Eventually we wish to have a house with floors of anything *but* carpet, but we will need rugs, and that looks like just the thing to make it feel cozy to lounge on!

Yes, the rug pad feels wonderful! I can totally relate to your puppy training – one of the reasons we waited to get a new carpet. Our pup is just over a year now so hopefully those days are behind us! 🙂
