Laundry is one of those never-ending chores – just when you finally get one load put away, you realize that the laundry hamper is, once again, overflowing! And to top it all off, you still have a pile of clean items that are waiting to be ironed. In all honesty, I try to avoid ironing at all costs, but, sometimes, it’s just got to be done!
When it comes to chores, anything that makes my job easier and cuts down on time is a favorite in my book. When de Machinor offered to send me one of their IronEase Pro ironing boards, I jumped at the chance. Our previous ironing board actually broke a few months ago so I had been ironing on the floor – not a good thing!
The Iron Ease is pretty much the Cadillac of all ironing boards with a number of new and innovative design features that set it apart. It is definitely a little pricier than the average ironing board but, in this case, you really do get what you pay for. The Iron Ease is actually the only US brand that has a board constructed of steel rather than plastic and it really is built to last you a lifetime. You can read more about it HERE but here are a few of my favorite features…
- The child safety/transportation lock. One of my biggest annoyances with my old ironing board was how easily it came apart. Every time I moved it from its storage area to where I was going to be ironing, it would open up and bang into something. The Iron Ease has a lock that allows it to stay in place, yet can still be released easily when I want to set it up {and it is height adjustable!!}
- The shoulder wing system. Now why didn’t someone come up with this sooner? The shoulder wing system basically allows you to iron shirts without having to rearrange them a million times to get to all of those wrinkles. The wings can easily be retracted back when you do not need them.
- Adjustable basket. Just because you are ironing, doesn’t mean you have to be away from all of the fun! Keep your phone handy with your tunes playing or stash the TV remote in there so you can do some channel surfing. I always love the little extra touches!
- Extra large board shape. This board is much wider than a standard ironing board making it easier to iron larger items like curtains, linens,or table cloths. If you are a sewer or quilter and spend a lot of time ironing your fabrics, this is the board for you! I also love that it has a hanger on the end so you can hang up your items as you go.
The Iron Ease is not yet available in stores but can be purchased directly from de Machinor {with FREE shipping in Canada!} or through Amazon in either the US or Canada.
Now that you have seen my cool ironing board, here are some tips to make that ironing go even quicker and easier!
Quick and Easy Ironing Tips
- Set up your ironing board in your bedroom if possible. You can sort out your clothes on your bed and your closet is close by for hanging afterwards.
- Organize your clothes first according to fabric type and iron temperature. Be sure to read those labels if you have not ironed your item before.
- Iron clothes that require the coolest setting first and work your way up in temperature.
- To prevent wrinkles, move freshly ironed surfaces away from you. Place items on a hanger as soon as you are done.
- Insert a rolled up towel in sleeves so they can be ironed without leaving creases.
- Create a homemade spray starch using 1 tbsp cornstarch to 2 cups of water. Dissolve well and place in a spray bottle to use. This will make your item easier to iron and make it more wrinkle-resistant throughout the day. {just don’t use too much!}
- Iron dress shirts or sheets while slightly damp to help get rid of wrinkles easier. If they are already dried, mist lightly with a water bottle.

That shoulder wing system is AMAZING!!! I need it. I iron mostly fabric so having the option to have a rectangular ironing board is great. The pocket for cell phones is also pretty fabulous. I was just sewing my daughter’s birthday dress over the weekend and thinking how in need I am of a new iron and ironing board.

Brit says
When I learned to iron shirts, the rule was details first, then the big surfaces: collar, back yoke, cuffs, sleeves the back, then the front. The back is ironed on the inside and the front laid nicely on top of the back while ironing. This way the larger parts do not get wrinkled while ironing the details.
