This week we will all be sharing simple handmade Christmas gift ideas. Load up on gift ideas for coworkers, teachers, hostess gifts, neighbours or fun little stocking stuffers. Just click on the links at the end of the post to get in that holiday gift-giving spirit! You might even want to make a couple for yourself. 🙂
Hot Chocolate Gift Ornament
If you’ve seen all of my hot chocolate bars, you know how much I love hot chocolate! I think hot chocolate makes the perfect gift – everyone loves it and you know it will go to good use. These hot chocolate gift ornaments look so cute and make up enough hot chocolate for two. The ornament can always be reused in the future, so it’s a no waste gift idea!
Materials
- clear, plastic ornaments {mine are about 5 inches in diameter}
- hot chocolate powder
- mini marshmallows
- crushed candy canes {you could use mini chocolate chips or Christmas sprinkles if you don’t like peppermint}
- ribbon
- hot chocolate label tags and hot chocolate label instruction tags {see below to download}
Instructions
- Add 6 tbsp. of hot chocolate powder to the ornament. If you have a funnel {or make one by rolling up a small sheet of paper}, it will make things much less messy! I used enough hot chocolate powder to make 2 cups of hot chocolate, but check the specific amounts needed for whatever hot chocolate powder you use.
- Top with a layer of mini marshmallows.
- Sprinkle approximately 1 tbsp. of crushed candy canes on top. If you don’t like peppermint, you can either skip this part or top with some mini chocolate chips or Christmas sprinkles.
- Download and print out one set of the tags (see tags below). I have one design for the candy cane hot chocolate and another option for just regular hot chocolate. Use scissors or a paper cutter to trim.
- Download and print one set of the hot chocolate instructions. Use scissors or a paper cutter to trim.
- Glue one tag and one instruction label together. Alternatively, you can use some Christmas cardstock to glue them to.
- Punch a hole in the tag and tie it around the top of the ornament with ribbon or twine. Add little embellishments if you choose {i.e jingle bells, mini pinecones, a sprig of greenery, etc.}
Hot Chocolate Gift Tags
I think the gift tags really add a special touch and they look so cute! I have two versions available – a candy cane print and a cup of cheer print. Each one comes with either Baby It’s Cold Outside or Merry Christmas. There are also two versions available for the instruction tag – one to go with the candy cane hot chocolate and one to go with the cup of cheer. Just pick the versions you would like, download, and print onto cardstock.

If you want to make up a big batch of hot chocolate, you could always put it in a mason jar too! Just tie the tag around the top or use some double sided adhesive to mount it to the front of the jar.
Or place all of your ornaments on a little tree and have guests take one home when they leave. I hope these let you spread a little Christmas cheer this holiday season!
