Create a warm and welcoming entry with these simple front porch fall decor ideas. It’s the perfect greeting at the end of a long day!
It’s definitely been feeling like fall around here. This September has been extra rainy and that fall crispness is in the air. The days are also starting to get a lot shorter and I know it won’t be long before I’m coming home from work in the dark {my least favorite thing about fall!}.

Fall Front Porch
I always love decorating the front porch each season. It’s such a nice greeting when we come home after a long day and it creates a warm welcome for any guests. Putting together a pretty front porch doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming. Even one or two little fall touches can dress it up and give you a smile when you come home.
Front Porch Fall Decor Tips
I’ve put together some easy ways that I add some fall touches to our front porch. Hopefully they’ll help you get started in creating your own space. Just have fun with it and don’t get overwhelmed. One or two design elements can be perfect!
Plant some fall plants or flowers.
I always think of mums when it comes to fall plants but there are so many more options! Flowering kale and oranamental cabbage look great in fall planters while pansies, aster, and dianthus are beautiful flowering options. To make things even easier, find a couple of planter boxes that you can just pop the plastic container into so you don’t have to actually plant anything. It makes it a lot quicker to clean up at the end of the season too!
I loved these flowers that I used on our fall front porch last year. They lasted really well throughout September and October. I asked what they were called when I bought them, but of course I forgot as soon as I got in the car. Let me know if you know their name!
Play around with color.
Fall has so many beautiful colors to choose from – pretty much anything goes! Although I went for the white mums this year, I couldn’t resist buying one yellow one to place at the bottom of the stairs {and I also have a dark red one at the end of our driveway!}. You can add color with your flowers, pumpkins and gourds, planter containers, fall branches or leaves. Even little glimpses of color using a scarf or throw blanket or some faux fall leaves can make things really pop.
Add lights.
I LOVE adding lights to our decor – especially during the darker months. It’s so nice to come home to some twinkling lights and I just love that glow! Since I can never remember to turn the lights on and off, I use solar lights or battery operated outdoor lights that automatically go on and off. You just have to set them the first time for what time you want them to go on, and they will do the rest! I added some twinkle lights to our fall basket wreath and pumpkin bucket and also have a few solar lanterns out. It just looks so pretty at night.
Grab those gourds.
Pumpkins and gourds are probably one of the most common ways to add some fall to your outdoor spaces. There are so many different color variaties, shapes, and sizes to choose from! Place them on your stairs, pile them up in a cute vignette, or add them to baskets and decorative bins. I was drawn to the stems on the pumpkins I choose this year – and I love heirloom pumpkins.
Add a pretty fall wreath.
A fall wreath or other front door decor can really help to make things more inviting. It doesn’t have to be a traditional wreath so get creative! I used a basket for our ” fall wreath” this year and added some faux fall leaves and twinkle lights {see the full post HERE}. It will be easy to change up each season and storing the faux leaves is easier than storing a full wreath form.
Put out the welcome mat.
A cute doormat always adds a warm welcome. It can be fun to put out a seasonal doormat, but if you don’t have room for storage, just stick with a pretty mat that can work year-round. Check to make sure that the material you choose for your mat will hold up to the elements that it will be exposed to. You’ll obviously have a few more choices if you have a covered porch vs. an uncovered porch.

The red flowers are commonly called cock’s comb(like a rooster’s comb). I think they are also called celeiosa. I hope this helps.
