Add a seasonal touch to your kitchen with these beautiful fall kitchen decor ideas. Quick and easy tips that can be done in any home!
I’m continuing on with our fall home tour today and showing you some fall kitchen decor ideas. I always have fun decorating our kitchen for fall. Just a few little changes can make such a big impact and it really doesn’t take long to switch things up. Over the years, I’ve developed a seasonal decorating plan that I always use for the kitchen so I wanted to share my steps with you today. It makes it so easy to do while still giving some creative options to make it unique each year.
You can also check out some of my previous fall kitchen home tours HERE, HERE and HERE to see how this process remains pretty consistent over the years. Other than a couple of dish towels {and the cute little fall gnomes!}, I didn’t purchase anything new for the kitchen this year. But using old items in new ways still gives it a bit of a different look.
Fall Kitchen Decor Ideas
When it comes to decorating the kitchen, some quick, simple swaps can make all the difference! Since we have a white kitchen, I like to stick with more traditional fall colors rather than neutrals so the colors really pop. It’s all about personal preference though, so stick with what you love!
Change out the artwork.
I know I say this all the time, but switching out framed prints has got to be the easiest way to add a seasonal touch to your space. Starting with the artwork is a great way to set the tone for your decor whether it be a particular theme, color scheme, or just overall feel that you’re going for.
I’ve kept a framed print behind our cutting board for years now and switch up the print every few months for a new look. This year’s prints are one of my favorites and I love the colors. You can kind of see the matching Stay Cozy print in the background below but I didn’t really get a good shot of it in the kitchen. You can find all of my free fall printables HERE from throughout the years if you’re looking for something different. There are lots of cute options!
Switch up the kitchen towels.
I’m kind of obsessed with kitchen hand towels and am always on the look out for new ones. Not only do they add color and texture to your kitchen, but they’re also functional! While I must admit I do keep a few for decor purposes only, I do use a lot of them and have them stashed all over the kitchen where a little filler is needed. If you have to clean, you might as well have something pretty to clean with!
Dress up the sink.
If you’ve seen any of my kitchen tours before, you know I love to give the sink a quick seasonal refresh. This year I used some faux fall stems for a nice pop of color and my favorite Mrs. Meyers apple cider hand and dish soaps. The perfectionist in me cringes at this photo since the dish soap is turned the wrong way, but that’s how it goes in the kitchen! lol! I also kept out this awesome DIY fruit fly trap as I always find new fruit flies whenever I think I can get rid of it. As long as it’s out, they totally stay away!
Create a seasonal vignette.
You don’t want your seasonal decor to make your kitchen look too cluttered, but pick one spot that you can create a little seasonal display. It doesn’t have to be a big area at all! I always do something in the far corner of our kitchen. It’s one of the prime visual spots but is also out of the way from where we do most of our prep work and cooking.
To help tie everything together, place the items on a tray, cutting board or little riser. This not only corrals everything in one spot, but also makes it easy to move for cleaning. This year’s display is kind of our little treat corner in the kitchen with an owl cookie jar, dessert bowls {perfect for apple crisp or pumpkin desserts!} and my favorite fall syrups that I use in my steamed milk {they work for coffees too}. The little owls in front are actually salt and pepper shakers, but since I have a few different fall sets, I filled these ones with some cinnamon as I like to sprinkle it on apples, hot drinks, and other fall desserts. And, of course, I have to add lights! 🙂
Keep things functional.
Even though I love adding seasonal decor, the primary purpose of the kitchen still needs to be function!
I always keep a tray beside the stove for our most used items, but just add a touch of fall to it. I love cute little salt and pepper shakers – they’re generally very inexpensive and add a little bit of fun!
Cookie jars are another functional item that can totally be repurposed. They’re a great place to stash items that you don’t necessarily want to display but still keep handy. You can use them for kitchen cleaning supplies or extra cleaning cloths, food items, napkins, or frequently used kitchen gadgets or utensils. Pretty much anything goes!
Other functional items that you can switch up for the season include oven mitts, napkins, seasonal soaps, or edible items. They’re all inexpensive and will get lots of use!
Display a chalkboard.
A chalkboard or letterboard doesn’t take up much space, but can easily be switched around for the different seasons and holidays. If you have older kids, this might be something that they enjoy helping with too. I’ve had this wall mounted chalkboard for years and always change out the design and kitchen towels. Sometimes I go more elaborate with the chalkboard art but kept it very simple this year.
Fill in with faux stems.
I use a lot of faux stems in my seasonal decor as it’s such a quick and easy way to add color and fill in any little bare spots. I prefer to stick with only 2-3 different types of stems (maximum) so there’s a more cohesive look to the entire space. Too many different stems and colors can get distracting. I look for stems that have some good movement to them, can be bent and posed, and don’t look plastic-y. This is one area that spending a little more money, can make a big difference in the quality.
I usually find a couple of stems that I like and then cut them up into smaller sections using wire cutters. I just tuck them into places where I have our regular decor and kitchen items for a pretty little pop of color.
We use our smoothie bar almost daily so this was something I didn’t want to change out for the season. Adding the fall berry sprigs gives it that fall feel though and I changed our honey pot for the little pumpkin pot.
Top off the cabinets.
While I would actually love to have kitchen cabinets that extend all the way to the ceiling, I have to work with what we’ve got! For those of us that have space at the top of kitchen cabinets, it’s definitely a personal preference if you like to keep them bare or decorate them.
I chose to decorate mine, but keep them fairly minimal and filled mostly with functional kitchen items like extra vases, platters, and casserole bowls. For the fall, the only thing I switched out was the stems. For the spring and summer, I have some greenery up there, but I wanted more of those fall pops of color.
Enjoy the fall scents.
Personally, I think fall scents are the best out of all of the seasons! Anything cinnamon, apple, pumpkin, vanilla, maple are all up my alley! I always have at least one seasonal candle out in the kitchen, but you could use a diffuser with essential oils or make this fall simmering potpourri if you prefer not to use candles.
Add a centerpiece.
A simple centerpiece is the perfect final touch to your fall kitchen. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. I often just use some kind of bowl or tray and a few seasonal favorites. I have plans for a new fall centerpiece this year but just filled a white bowl with some white pumpkins for the intem.
Placing your centerpiece on a tray or cutting board helps to anchor the piece and makes it easier to move on and off the table if you have a more elaborate centerpiece.
Control counter clutter.
We have a small desk area off the kitchen that we use as our family command center. It gives us a place to keep all of the paper and other little items so they stay off of the counter. If your counter tends to accumulate too much stuff, create somewhere in your kitchen (or other easily accessible spot) to file it away. You don’t want all of that clutter ruining your pretty decor!
To be honest, I haven’t used that acrylic calendar since March! Our fall schedules are filling up, however, so I do plan on starting things up again come October. I kind of have mixed feelings about that. 😉
I hope you enjoyed these fall kitchen decor ideas! If this gave you some inspiration for your own space, I’d love to see what you do! Even just a couple of fall touches can make you feel more festive. Plus, the fall colors are always so cozy at this time of year.
Our fall living room tour is up tomorrow so I hope to see you then!

I absolutely adore your owl cookie jar. Do you mind sharing where you got it?

I got it at Walmart last year. I didn’t see him this year but they often have really cute seasonal cookie jars for under $10.
