Spring Decor
One of the easiest ways to add a little spring touch to you home is with greenery. I love the pops of green and it goes nicely with almost any color scheme. Lately, I’ve been drawn to more simple decor and am sticking with more neutral colors this year. Adding the greenery adds life and warmth to any space.
DIY Tropical Spring Centerpiece
This tropical spring centerpiece is an easy spring project that can be done in less than 15 minutes. Customize the size, plants used, and any of the details to make it your own.
Materials
- any container of your choice. This is just a melamine fruit bowl, so you can really use anything!
- a variety of tropical plants and/or ferns. Look for different heights, textures, and coloring.
- small rocks for drainage. You can purchase a container at the dollar store very inexpensively.
- potting soil
- moss {I like the brighter reindeer moss}
- wood pieces or other add-ons for extra texture and interest
- small nest {You can find these at craft stores or the dollar store}
Instructions
- If you don’t have any drainage in your container, add a small layer of rocks for drainage purposes.
- Place a thin layer of soil in the bottom of the planter.
- Add the plants and move them around to get the look you want. Start with the largest ones first and then move to the smaller ones. Once you’re happy with it, take them out of their pots and slightly break up the roots.
- Fill in around the plants with more soil.
- Add in the nest, wood pieces, and any other add-ons you would like.
- Add reindeer moss over the soil. Place it around the planter sporadically or cover the soil completely. Alternatively, you could add some small pebbles to the top like I did with this tropical centerpiece.
- I added ours to a long wood cutting board for our kitchen table. Two ceramic bunnies flank the planter with a few moss branches for a little more texture and interest.
How to Care for Your Spring Centerpiece
Tropical plants are generally pretty easy to care for and really don’t take a lot of time to maintain. I keep a mister close by and give it a misting every few days. You can find all of my tips and tricks for caring for tropical planters HERE. The biggest thing with smaller containers {especially if there isn’t great drainage} is to not overwater!
I hope you have fun giving this a try. You can use it for decor all the way through spring and even move it out to the patio for some summer decor!
