If you’re looking for a simple but thoughtful gift idea for family and friends, this DIY spa holiday gift basket is perfect! I mean, who couldn’t use a little self-pampering and relaxation after this past year? This gift gives you that personalized, handmade feel, but can be put together in no time! Plus you can customize it to almost any budget!
DIY Spa Labels
I created these spa labels on my Cricut Joy and I love how they turned out. While you could do a holiday themed label if you would like, I decided to go with something that could be used all year round. I wanted a really calm, spa-like feel to the labels so I kept the design very simple with a small lotus leaf for a little bit of detail.
Materials
- glass bottles with a secure lid. I picked up these ones in a pack of 6 at Michaels but you could use mason jars or upcycle other glass jars that you may have on hand.
- Cricut Joy
- Cricut Joy Smart Labels Writable Vinyl
- black fine tip pen {comes with the Cricut Joy}
- cutting blade {comes with the Cricut Joy}
- bath salts, bubble bath, body wash or other spa items you would like
- spa labels
Directions
- Click on this link for the spa labels and open up Cricut Design Space. {You will need to have access to Cricut Design Space for this}. If you’d like to create your own labels in Design Space, learn how to make your own HERE.
- Go to “Make It”. Or click on “Customize It” if you’d like to change the labels up a bit.
- Connect your Cricut Joy and select Smart Materials.
- Follow the prompts on the screen and load the black fine point tip into the Joy. Load the Smart Vinyl and click start.
- Once the writing tool has finished, Design Space will prompt you to switch the pen to the cutting blade. Click start once this is done.
- Wash your bottles and be sure to dry them completely. Fill with bath salts, body wash, and bubble bath. {A funnel can be helpful for the transferring the bath salts to the bottles.}
- Peel off the smart labels and attach to the bottles. To avoid any bubbles when placing the labels, start in the center of the label and then smooth outwards. If you’re happy with the placement, rub over the label to adhere.
I love how pretty these look displayed out on a little wood cutting board or tray.
Personalized Towels
Personalized towels add an extra special touch to your spa basket and can be made in minutes with your Cricut Joy. I made some custom beach towels in the summer for my family, so just head to this post to see how quick and easy they are to do! For the spa basket, you could do monogram towels, favorite sayings, or create your own custom design on Cricut Design Space.
For my basket, I created two towels – one that says All Is Calm that can be used for the holidays and one that simply says Relax which can be used all year long. I used the Cricut Joy Smart Iron On Glitter for the first time and love how it turned out! Always remember to mirror your image when your doing an iron-on transfer and the Cricut Easy Press makes it super easy to get your transfers right every time!
Since I did an All Is Calm towel, I thought an All Is Bright candle would be cute to go with it. Both designs are available on Cricut Design Space:
- All Is Calm Calligraphy – #MFB138FE
- All is Bright Calligraphy – #MFB13908
For the candle, I just peeled off the original label on the candle and used a simple vinyl transfer with silver Smart Vinyl to make my own. I think they turned out pretty cute and would make a great gift all on their own!
What to Put in a Spa Gift Basket
The thing I love most about putting together a spa gift basket is customizing it! You can totally choose what you want to add to it based on your recipient’s favorite items, your budget, theme, etc. While the possibilities are endless, here are some spa gift basket ideas to help get you started…
- plush towels
- bubble bath or body wash. Unless you know you’re recipient’s favorite scents, try to stick with more natural, light scents {or even unscented!} options.
- bath salts {You can learn to make your own scented bath salts HERE}
- bath bombs
- facial masks
- exfoliating scrubs
- chocolates {NOTE: if you have any scented bath products that are not in air-tight containers such as soaps or bath bombs, attach your chocolates to the OUTSIDE of the gift basket when wrapped so they don’t absorb any of the bath scents!}
- cooling eye mask
- jade roller
- gourmet teas or coffees
- candles
- linen spray
- lotions or oils
- pedicure or manicure materials
- good quality loofahs
- exfoliating mitts
- essential oils for diffusing
- eye mask for sleeping
If you really want to ramp it up, you could even add in a gift card to a real spa for a pedicure, massage, or any other service.
How to Make a Spa Gift Basket
Once you’re all ready to put your basket together, there are a few things you’ll need to do:
Pick a basket, tray, or other bin to hold your items.
While I like using containers that can be used afterwards, you could even wrap up a cardboard box with pretty wrapping paper if you’re trying to keep the budget down. Thrift shops also often have really nice baskets for great prices.
Choose your packaging materials.
You’ll likely want to wrap your basket with some clear cellophane and may also want some tissue paper or shredded paper grass to use as filler for your packaging. You can then always add ribbon, bows or other gift wrapping embellishments for a pretty touch. {You can see some of my Christmas gift wrapping ideas HERE}. Top with a gift tag or create your own tag or card on your Cricut! You can find lots of free printable Christmas gift tags HERE or this Heavenly Peace gift tag would be perfect for a Christmas spa gift.
Assemble your basket.
Once you have all of your products together, you just need to assemble everything. This may take a little bit of rearranging to get everything to look the way you want, so keep switching things around or add a little more filler until you get the look you want. Generally, place the largest items at the back and then layer in the other items with the smallest items at the front. Wrap with clear cellophane and tie with a pretty ribbon or other embellishments.
I hope you like this little spa gift basket idea and have some fun putting your own together. Let me know if you make one!
Cricut Joy
I’ve had my Cricut Joy since they first came out earlier this year and I have to say I LOVE it! While it doesn’t have all of the capabilities as my Cricut Maker, I use it a lot more frequently because it’s so quick and easy to use. It’s perfect for creating little crafts and gifts and doing organization projects around the house. I think I’ve pretty much labeled every bin and basket in the whole house! Thanks! That was my first time using the glitter iron-on and it’s so pretty! Merry Christmas!

Where did you purchase the grey basket pictured?
Jenn Lifford says
I got it from Target – I think it was in the bath section. 🙂

Hi. Love your post. I was wondering what kind of towel you used for the basket. I saw that you had said that you used Turkish towels in one of the links. Was the towel used in the basket a Turkish towel? To me it looked to be a different texture. I was just wondering because I wanted to make sure that what ever I decided to use, would work ok with vinyl. Thanks so much, Meschell
Jenn Lifford says
I’ve used pretty much every kind of towel and they all work well. The time for pressing it on can vary though depending on the thickness and material. You’re right – the one in the photo is just a regular cotton towel.
