Hey! It’s Lindi again! I’m so happy to be back again from Love Create Celebrate sharing another DIY project. You may remember a few months ago I shared a super easy tutorial for Gold Leaf Bowls. I’m a BIG fan of gold. I think it has its place in every design style. Plus pops of gold decor are more popular than ever right now. This Decorative Gold Orb is just what you need on your shelf!
I’m so in love with the look of this orb. It’s so vibrant and fun. I can’t believe it only took a few steps to make!
Materials:
- 10-12 wire hangers
- 2″ diameter styrofoam ball (or semi-circle)
- Side cutters
- Gold spray paint
To start, you want to make sure that you have a semicircle of styrofoam. I actually had a full circle, but the styrofoam is SO easy to cut apart, you can sand it down or cut it in half if you need to.
Next, use the side cutters to cut your hangers. You want to use the straight sides of the hangers. One hanger should give you five 4″ long pieces.
The next step is to spray paint your hangers and styrofoam pieces. I stuck the hangers into a large piece of foam we had lying around. You want to spray the hangers once, and then flip them upside down and spray them again. The styrofoam balls will actually soak in a lot of the spray paint and react to it. This is fine because they get hangers plopped in them anyway! The picture above shows them after one coat of paint. You’ll need to do at least two.
The final step is simply to stick those hangers in anywhere you want them to go. I tried to put them in symmetrically at first and quickly learned it was near impossible, lol. So I put them anywhere that seemed empty. Once you have them in, they are actually fairly tight, so there is no need for glue unless you plan to move your orb from shelf to shelf a lot.
If you have some more wire hangers lying around, take a look at this Ombre Sunburst Mirror I made!
