Our Living Room Home Tour
I’m continuing on with our fall home tour today and showing you our cozy fall living room. If you missed the previous fall home tour posts, you can find our fall dining room here…
and our fall kitchen decor ideas here.
Now let’s move onto the living room!
Our Cozy Fall Living Room Decor
We have a pretty open floor plan on our main floor and our living room is right off the kitchen. We use this space a lot as a family to hang out, watch movies, or just sit and chat while we’re making dinner. As the cooler fall weather starts to hit, I love to cozy up this space. Due to the times, I have a feeling we’ll be spending even more time in here this fall and winter!
If you’re wanting to add some fall warmth to your own home, I’ve put together my favorite tips for creating an inviting and cozy space. There’s never been a better time than now to create a comfy space for your family to relax and hang out in!
Bring out the blankets.
I’m definitely one of those people that always likes to have a blanket around. There’s nothing like curling up on the sofa with a nice, cozy throw! Not only are blankets functional, but they’re also a great way to add color and texture to your space. From soft and fuzzy and faux fur to cable knit or chunky weaves, you can’t go wrong with a good fall blanket {or two of three!}. Roll blankets up in a basket, hang them on a blanket ladder, or drape them over a chair or sofa.
Layer on the pillows.
Another easy way to add texture and color is with throw pillows. I like to always have a base of neutral pillows that can be used throughout the year and then layer on seasonal pillows. Look for pillows with a variety of textures and warm tones to add some extra coziness to your living room. You can keep extra pillows in a basket or stacked up in a corner. They can always be grabbed for extra floor seating for the kids or just sprawling out on the floor.
To save on space, purchase just the pillow cases when you can and re-use the inserts. If you do have full pillows that need to be stored off-season, you can use vacuum storage bags to keep the fabrics protected and save on space. The bags also work great for any seasonal throws that you may have.
Add in the warm tones.
While I do love neutrals, I always gravitate towards the warm, fall tones once the cooler weather hits. Even if you don’t like orange, you can still use wheat tones, warm metallics, wood tones or even more muted orange colors to bring in that cozy feeling.
Dress up the mantel.
Since the mantel is often the focal point of the room, it’s a good place to start with your decorating. I made this DIY wood sign and brought in the metallic gold tones with the ‘Autumn’ and used this as the starting point for the room.
I then brought in more of the warm tones with the amber glass and copper lights. You can find the rest of the details of our fall mantel HERE.
Turn on the lights.
The lights are always my favorite part! To get that warm, comforting glow you can add twinkle lights, candles, battery operated candles, or simply turn on the fireplace.
I always look for twinkle lights and battery operated candles that have automatic timers. I love having them come automatically as the sun goes down and I don’t have to worry about remembering to turn them off before I go to bed. The warm white lights are definitely my favorite.
Add some fall scents.
Fall has got to be the best season for scents! Create some fall essential oil blends using oils such as cinnamon, cardamom, clove, or orange or purchase other fall fragrance oils to a diffuser. There are also a ton of delicious fall scented candle options {even if you’re not a pumpkin spice fan!}. My absolute favorite is the copper leaves scent from Illume. I have to get one every year and save it for those times that I can really enjoy it. It comes in a variety of pretty containers that can be used afterwards.
Spread the scents around throughout the room for a nice light scent that isn’t too overpowering.
And that about wraps things up! I hope you enjoyed the tour and are inspired to add a little coziness to your own space. You could use the tips in the bedroom too if you’re looking for more of a cozy retreat all for yourself!

Love all the wheat tones! I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some nice wheat stalks from the field somewhere. So far no luck. Love your fall tour.
Jenn Lifford says
Thanks Julia! I found my wheat in a field at HomeSense. 🙂 They also have it at our local flower shops but it’s pretty pricey.
Krista says
So many pretty fall touches! I accidentally buried my wheat at the very back of my super stuffed storage unit so no wheat this year… oops! Happy first day of fall, friend:)
