Our Christmas Living Room Home Tour
Today I’ll be showing your around our cozy Christmas living room. Like the kitchen, I used a lot of dried oranges in our living room decor and added in touches of golds, greens, and whites. I always like to use a lot of natural elements in our Christmas decor and this year I layered on faux greenery, pine cones, and lots of little trees throughout the space.
This is the first year that I haven’t decorated our mantel in over 10 years, but I think I might end up changing my mind and adding some simple garland at some point. I just didn’t haven’t had the motivation to do it, but I do miss the extra coziness that it brings.
Cozy Christmas Living Room Decor Ideas
As the holidays near and the temperatures continue to drop, I find myself being drawn to cozy blankets, twinkling Christmas lights, and blazing fires. I’m one of those people that is ALWAYS cold, so anything with warmth and coziness is right up my alley!
Now that we’re home even more these days than usual, I think it’s even more important to create a cozy space to relax. From cuddling on the sofa watching Christmas movies, to relaxing in front of the fire with a book, to just sitting and watching the Christmas lights twinkle – there is still lots to love about staying home.
Cozy Christmas Decor Tips
If you’re wanting to cozy up your home for the holidays, I’ve put together some of my favorite cozy Christmas living room decor ideas for you. I hope you find them helpful!
Stock up on blankets.
I love cuddling on the sofa with a nice cozy blanket. Faux furs, chunky knits, soft wools – I love them all! It’s the perfect way to relax while reading a favorite book, watching a Christmas movie, or just chatting about the day. Throw blankets are also great for adding some color and texture to a room. Drape them over your sofa, hang them on a blanket ladder, or roll them up in some baskets for easy access.
Layer on the pillows.
Pillows are one of the easiest ways to add that seasonal touch to your living room and they’re perfect for getting cozy! I look for pillows with nice fluffy inserts and often get the inserts a size larger than the pillow cover so they’re extra fluffy. Mix a solid colored pillow with patterned pillows or seasonal designs. Mixing up the texture of the pillow cases is another way to add that cozy feeling to your space.
If you can, look for pillow covers that can be purchased separately from the pillow inserts. This makes it a lot easier to store in the off season and cuts down on your costs.
Use natural elements.
Bringing elements of nature inside creates a sense of peace and tranquility.
I brought in lots of mini faux trees and decorated them simply with dried orange ornaments, wood beads, cinnamon ornaments, and mixed element garlands.
The oranges have such a pretty glow with the lights behind them.
I also layered the dried oranges with pine cones and faux greenery and pinecone picks in our mantel. {You can read more about our Christmas mantel decor HERE}
Decorate the tree.
There’s nothing that brings more Christmas coziness to a space than a Christmas tree! I like to load up on the lights for an extra glow, and it was definitely a labor of love this year since all of our lights needed to be restrung this year.
Using some handmade ornaments to your tree adds a special touch and makes it more personal. For our tree this year, I used my DIY printable ornaments, dried orange ornaments, air-dry clay stars, and my reindeer handmade ornaments from last year along with store-bought ornament balls, snowflakes and ribbon.
I also like to spend a little time dressing up under the tree and creating pretty coordinating gift wrap. I’m loving the green, white and gold with kraft paper this year. You can get my free printable kraft paper gift tags HERE along with some easy gift wrapping ideas to take your wrapping up a notch!.
Turn on the glow.
Low, soft lighting helps to bring out that calm and cozy atmosphere. I like to use twinkle lights in our decor throughout the year, but you can definitely enjoy them more during the winter when the nights are so much longer.
Thank-you so much for visiting today. I hope you found some inspiration to decorate and cozy up your own home for Christmas. If you’re new here and would like to stay in touch, you can always find me here..
