Cozy up your bedroom for the holidays with these pretty Christmas bedroom decor ideas. Simple ways to add that festive touch!
Our Christmas Bedroom Decor
I’m continuing on with our Christmas home tour today and showing you around our master bedroom. I kept things fairly simple in here, but I sure do love the changes!
Decorating your bedroom might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas decor, but I highly recommend it! There’s nothing better than having a magical, cozy space to relax in when you need an escape from all of the holiday hustle and bustle.
How to Create a Cozy Christmas Bedroom
Decorating your bedroom for Christmas doesn’t have to involve a lot of effort – even just a few seasonal touches can make a big difference! If you’re looking to create a bit more of a festive feeling in your bedroom, here are some tips to help you out.
Add some festive colors.
While you can really use any color scheme you like for your Christmas decor, there’s nothing more festive than adding a little red! I do find that red can be a little overwhelming if there is too much of it, so I like to stick with just a few pops of color here and there. I added a long lumbar pillow to our bed {in a cozy sweater material}, my advent calendar doll, and some red ribbon to the tree.
Create a pretty Christmas vignette.
A dresser or side table is the perfect place to add a pretty seasonal touch in your bedroom space.
I like to start with fairly neutral pieces that can be used throughout the year and then just switch up a few elements with more seasonal decor. If you look at our dresser from our summer bedroom tour, you can see that the majority of the display is the same. I just switched up the faux stems, added the winter trees, and layered on the leaf twinkle lights and pinecone garland.
Cozy up your bedding.
There’s nothing better than snuggling up in bed with some Netflix and twinkling Christmas lights. Switch up your comforter or duvet to a heavier weight, add some extra blankets or quilts, or layer on some extra pillows for a more luxurious feeling.
For a cozier sleep, change up your regular sheets for some flannel ones. It’s always fun to add a seasonal pattern too! I found these cute reindeer sheets at Superstore and they were a relatively inexpensive way to dress up the bed for Christmas.
Our bed is actually a storage bed so the whole mattress system lifts up with full storage underneath. We keep all of our extra bedding, off-season bedding and pillows under it, so everything stays close and can be changes up as needed. {NOTE: If you’re looking for a bed storage system, check the weight of the mattress. We were told there were no limitations on weight, however, our mattress ended up being too heavy for the hydraulics to work properly and the bed will only stay up if someone is holding it.}
Toss a pillow.
Pillows are a great way to add texture, color, and coziness to your bedroom. I always start with neutral pillows as my base and then just switch up a few of the pillows each season. The three large, white Euro pillows stay year-round and then I just switch up the pillow cases on the king sized pillows and add a matching accent pillow to the front. I love this cozy, red sweater pillow that I found at HomeSense!
Trim a tree.
We bought a tree for our bedroom last year and I will never go back! I just love having a pretty Christmas tree to stare at when I’m trying to wind down before bed. It’s in the perfect spot to see the lights as we’re lying in bed. I wish I could get a better photo of the tree but it’s so hard to photograph with all of the windows around it. I promise it’s prettier in real life!
Although I kept the tree pretty neutral with the ornaments, I did add some red velvet ribbon for that little punch of red to tie in with the rest of the room.
Turn on the glow.
You can never forget the lights when it comes to Christmas decor! A strand of lights can really be hung almost anywhere and adds such a pretty glow at night! String them along your headboard, over your dresser or light up a tree!
Add some Christmas scents.
There are so many amazing scents associated with Christmas – from spices like cinnamon, gingerbread and vanilla, to more woodsy scents like fresh cut pine or other greenery.
Whether you like a lot of scent or just a hint, there are a number of ways that you can add that touch of Christmas to your bedroom. Diffusers, linen sprays, or candles are all perfect for the bedroom and can be layered to achieve your desired scent level and custom scent. My very favorite scent for Christmas is the Thymes Frasier Fir and I always buy at least 1 or 2 items each Christmas. Not only does it smell amazing, but they also have such pretty container options!
Have some fun!
Who says advent calendars are just for kids? I found this advent calendar doll a number of years ago at HomeSense and I loved it! I knew that my boys wouldn’t want her so I bought it for myself. She gets filled with chocolates {maybe multiple times!} and it’s the perfect bed time treat.
Well, there you go! I hope you enjoyed the tour and take a little time to add some Christmas decor to your bedroom just for you!
