I have been wanting to make one of these chicken wire frames for a while now but I kept forgetting to pick up chicken wire when I was out at Home Depot. But trust the good ol’ dollar store to carry chicken wire! Who knew? For $1, I now have enough chicken wire to make about 20 of these!
I bought this frame on clearance from Superstore for around $7 with no real plans for it. I liked the texture of the wood and figured it would eventually come in handy!
I have been loving blue lately so I ended up spray painting the frame in Sea Mist Blue. After a couple of coats and a little sanding, it was all ready to go. I then spray painted the matting with chalk paint – 3 coats in total. Make sure you “prime” the chalk paint once you have finished by rubbing the flat edge of a piece of chalk over the entire area {sorry no pictures!}
I cut down the chicken wire to size and then wrapped it around those little prongs in the back of the frame to hold everything in place. A few staples were required as well.
Add your title, a fun quote, or whatever you feel like writing on the matting. Doodle away…
And there you have my chicken wire, chalk matting, photo frame!
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

One of these chicken wire boards is on my list too. Dying to try it. I can’t believe you found the wire at the dollar store! I should have thought to try there but I was shocked I even found it.
