Christmas Home Tours
I’m continuing on with our Christmas home tour today as part of The Happy Housie’s Christmas Seasonal Simplicity Series. There will be 50 Christmas Home tours shared this week, so get ready for some beautiful Christmas inspiration! You can find all of the posts for the full week at the end of the post so grab a cup of coffee {or hot cocoa!} and enjoy the tours. If you’re coming over from The Tattered Pew – welcome! I’m sure you enjoyed Kelly’s beautiful tour! And if you’re new here, I’m so glad you could drop by for a visit!
If you’ve missed our earlier room tours, you can catch our Christmas kitchen home tour here….
…and see our Christmas mantel here.
Christmas Dining Room Christmas Home Tour
Just in case you haven’t guessed it yet, today I’ll be showing you around our Christmas dining room. We don’t actually eat in here a lot {we usually eat at the kitchen table}, but it’s the first room that you see when you come in the door so I like to make it pretty and welcoming. You can also pretty much see it from every room on our main floor so we can still enjoy all of the decorations – and especially the tree!
The dining room is actually one of my favorite rooms to decorate – probably because I think of it more as “my” room. lol! The kids aren’t in here too much so everything tends to stay where it belongs – which is pretty much a Christmas miracle around here.
Whether you decorate a little or lot at Christmas time, I hope that you can find some Christmas inspiration and decorating ideas that you can use in your own home. You definitely don’t need to go full out – even a few special touches can bring out that Christmas magic. If you’re not sure where to start, just pick one focal point in your home and try an idea or two.
Christmas Dining Room Decor Ideas
If you’re wanting to add a little Christmas spirit to your dining room {or really any room in your home!}, I’ve put together a few Chrismas decor tips for you. So put on that Christmas music, pull out the decorations, and have fun decking the halls!
Pick a color scheme/theme.
I never really stick strictly to a specific color scheme or theme but it’s always a good place to start. This year, I used the Reindeer Ridge Christmas Lodge printable as my inspiration and pulled more snowy, neutral decor and all of my reindeers to add to the space. There are still a couple of pops of red around the room, but for the most part, I stuck with neutrals and silver metallics.
I used most of the reindeer on the sideboard but saved a couple for the dining room table and a couple of small ones in our hutch to tie everything together.
I even made some reindeer ornaments to use on our tree.
Group similar items together.
Your decor pieces will have a bigger impact if they’re grouped together rather than spread out around the room. I have a variety of white ceramic houses that I used in our hutch and buffet. They add an easy Christmas touch to all of our white plates and serving pieces. Sprigs of faux greenery add some extra texture and give a little more warmth to the space.
Bring on the hot chocolate.
We don’t drink coffee around here, so hot chocolate is definitely our hot beverage of choice! While it can be fun to put together a big hot chocolate bar, all you really need are a few mason jars.
You can even dress them up with these free printable hot chocolate labels.
Add a little whimsy.
Even though this is a bit of a more formal space, you can’t have Christmas decor without a little bit of whimsy! I always use the far corner as some kind of fun beverage bar and this year I did a Milk and Cookie bar.
You can grab the Rudolph’s Milk and Cookie Co. printable HERE. I also used it for our Christmas movie night cart and think it would be cute pretty much anywhere in the house.
Dress up a wreath.
A wreath doesn’t have to just be for the front door. Try taking a basic wreath and adding a couple of customized touches. I added some ribbon and pinecones to the simple jingle bell wreath and hung it from the large mirror on our side board.
On our other mirror I hung a flocked pine cone wreath with a Merry Christmas sign and Christmas gnome.
I also used a wreath as a base for our Christmas centerpiece.
Decorate a Tree
Who says a Christmas tree can’t be in the dining room? I’ve always wanted a flocked, neutral tree but the kids and my husband preferred the unflocked tree that we have up in our family room. So a couple of years ago, I bought this little flocked tree that I could decorate all on my own.
This year I dressed it up with some white and silver metallic ribbon, snowy pinecone picks, and all of my favorite neutral Christmas ornaments.
And, of course, it looks even better when it’s all lit up! There’s nothing like dining by the glow of a Christmas tree.
Create some chalkboard art.
Our chalkboard ends up being a little hidden behind the tree, but I think it’s the perfect holiday message peeking out. If you’re looking for an inexpensive and easy way to add some seasonal decor, a chalkboard is perfect. Even simple designs look pretty!
If you’re not comfortable drawing on your own chalkboards, you can always just download and print this Sleigh Rides chalkboard Christmas printable.
Get Your Glow On
For me, the best part of any Christmas decor is the lights! Christmas tree lights, twinkle lights, candles, and battery operated candles all create that perfect glow and I love the reflection off of the ornaments. I can never quite capture the lights in photos, but it looks so pretty in real life.
I hope this helped to bring out a little bit of that Christmas spirit and gave you a few ideas for your own Christmas dining room decor. There are still a lot more Christmas homes to tour though so take a look at the links below and go for your own holiday home tour. Next up on today’s tour is Laura from The Turquoise Home. I’m sure you’ll love her beautiful home as I much as I do so drop by and say hello!
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas season! With the busyness of the holidays, I hope you take some time to enjoy all of the fun festivities as well as schedule some quiet time to relax with friends and family. xo

Hi – I’m wondering if you can tell me where you got the unit where you hang your mugs on your holiday home tour? It has a tin tub hanging from it (with a towel and a stocking?) I love it!

It’s from Decor Steals. It’s a daily deal site, so you’ll have to keep your eye out for it. You can leave your email and they will notify you when it’s in stock again. Here’s the link…
