Create this simple outdoor summer planter centerpiece for a pretty addition to any outdoor space or summer patio.
Summer Outdoor Projects
Summer is my favorite season of the year and I can’t wait to get our outdoor spaces all ready for some summer fun and relaxation. If you’re looking for a little summer outdoor inspiration, I’m joining in a fun summer blog hop today with some amazing blogging friends. We have lots of summer outdoor projects and decor ideas to share with you, so be sure to check out all of the links at the end of the post.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working on getting our patio ready for summer. I still have a little ways to go, but I did finish up the power washing and clean all of the patio cushions and furniture. I also repainted a few items that needed touch-ups and re-stained our patio table. Now all that’s left is the fun part – decor and flowers!
I usually do lots of different colored flowers on the back patio {you can see last year’s summer patio here}, but this year I’m going to go with a variety of white flowers and greenery. While I still have some work to do on the planters, I did create this pretty outdoor summer planter centerpiece for our patio table and wanted to share it with you today.
Outdoor Summer Planter Centerpiece
Materials
- Planter or container
- Horticultural charcoal and gravel {if no drainage in your planter}
- Soil
- Variety of white flowers and greenery. I used 3 small bacopas, 3 diamond frosts, 3 superbells white, 3 potato vines, and 2 floristan whites. These flowers work well in full sun.
To Make
- If your planter does not have drainage, line the bottom with some horticultural charcoal (approximately 1 inch thick) and top with a thin layer of gravel rocks. This will help to absorb any excess water and keep the roots from sitting in water. If your planter or container has drainage holes, you can skip this step.
- Fill your container with potting soil.
- Add the floristan whites {white gayfeather} to the center of the planter. Visually divide the planter into thirds and place one diamond frost, one superbell, one potato vine, and one bacopa in each third. Keep the bacopas and potato vines closer to the edge so they can trail over.
- Top up any holes with soil.
I’m looking forward to seeing more blooms as the summer progresses! Check back in a couple of weeks to see our finished back patio.
