I always have a lot of fun putting together a beverage bar each season. I moved my Halloween candy cane hot chocolate bar over to our side board this year and decided to keep the winter hot cocoa bar there as well. I think it was the first thing that I decorated for the season!I picked up the red bottle crate from Home Sense and I love it! It also came with two smaller crates that can fit inside it {you can see one of them on the bottom shelf}. It’s a little bit bigger than my regular bottle crate so it’s easy to get the bottles out and it adds a nice pop of red.
I probably have hot chocolate way too often, but I love having a warm drink in the evenings and I’m not really a big fan of tea. I especially love a good candy cane hot chocolate {thanks Tim Horton’s for getting me hooked on these} and I would have no trouble drinking these every day.
For my candy cane hot chocolate, I usually use the pre-made hot chocolate mix as a base so I guess I can’t technically call it homemade. I’ve played around with quite a few variations though and this is our favorite…
Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Recipe
- 4 cups milk
- hot cocoa mix {slightly less than recommended on package directions}
- 1 -2 oz semi-sweet chocolate {depending on how rich you like it}
- 4 tbsp crushed candy canes {approximately 4 large candy canes}
Heat milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling. Add the hot chocolate mix, chocolate, and candy canes and whisk together until smooth. I usually start with the 1 oz of chocolate and then add more to taste. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and additional crushed candy canes if desired. Makes 4 servings.
One of these crates packaged up with some bottles would also make a cute Christmas gift idea. If you would like the tags, you can find them in this post. I just added some scrapbook paper to the back of them and some baker’s twine to tie.
You can also find the Chalkboard Marshmallow World printable HERE. I keep meaning to print out a bigger copy for my photo stand but I need to buy some new ink! 🙂
Happy Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Season!

Not only is this adorable,but it’s the perfect way to remind yourself to have cocoa every day! 😉 I like tea well enough, but it’s not really suited to be an evening beverage to me. Cocoa, though, is an anytime beverage – breakfast, lunch, dinner, and any time in between! 😀
Also, love your little truck in the house with the marshmallows, as well as your little penguin cups! So freakin’ adorable 😀
Well done, Jenn! Such a sweet idea. I’ve pinned it to my “Christmas Hospitality” Pinterest board. Your decorating is lovely also.
Chocolate!!! I can’t control my tongue. Really love chocolate very much. I must try this recipe on Christmas. Thanks Jenn for such an awesome post.
lol! I’m a big chocolate fan too. 🙂
Such a lovely christmas corner! I love that print and I would love to have cup of that hot chocolate! 🙂
Thanks!
