Christmas is my very favorite holiday and I love all of our family traditions and the many activities that we do throughout December. As wonderful as everything is, however, the busyness of the season can often bring added stress and a huge list of things to do. This year I am on a mission to get organized for the holidays and have come up with a little plan to get things done…
As with most organization projects, I think the trick to getting {and staying!} organized is to develop a plan that is realistic to follow and will allow you to get a little bit done each day. So, for the month of November, I am going to try to do 30 minutes of Christmas organization and planning per day. Some of it will be related directly to Christmas planning and some of it will be more related to cleaning up the house in time for all of those holiday guests. 🙂
I will be using a lot of my printables from last year’s Christmas planner. I’ll be going through all of the free printables throughout the month, but if you want to get a jump start on it, you can always print them out earlier by checking out this post.
To get started for today, we are going to be working on a little decluttering that will continue throughout the month. Things will be a lot easier to clean and keep tidy during the busy holidays, if you get rid of all of that stuff that you don’t need or use. And chances are you will likely be getting even more stuff once Christmas rolls around! All you need to get going is a garbage bag and a donation bin. Start with those areas that are in the most need of tidying and will most likely be seen by guests. Throughout November, my goal is to get at least 10 items each day that I can donate or should be thrown away. It is the season of giving after all, so pack up those items that you no longer need and pass them on to someone else that can use them!
To give you an idea of how to get started and some suggestions for areas to declutter, check out this post. And, remember that anything you can get rid of {even if it is not done every day!} is better than where you started!
If you would like to organized for the holidays too, I would love for you to join me! I will be posting here once or twice per week but follow me on Instagram and Facebook for daily updates and holiday organization tips. Hope to see you there!

Oddly enough, I can’t wait for Christmas this year! I, too, have started planning and cleaning up around the house…have a few gifts taken care of already even! Decluttering around the house and getting rid of things bit by bit is on my list as well!

Great idea to clean out the clutter when you might be cooped up in house anyway, due to weather. Not yet here (Grand Junction, CO area) but it will hit us sooner rather than later. We’ve had a pretty mild Oct. Am spoiled, it was 78 degrees here today, reminds me of San Diego weather. Haven’t lived there since 92 but do remember after 21 yrs. of living there how it was. After San Diego we moved to 20 acres in MT, for 7 yrs. then KY for 5 yrs. have been here in Co for little over 10 yrs.
Tomorrow supposed to be high of 50 and chilly for rest of next week. Getting us ready for the big bang.
Boy can I ever do with some major uncluttering, been working on projects in living room and kitchen, arrrggghhh . Instead of making things for while think will follow your example by decluttering, what a great idea. Sure glad you suggested it. Wish you could come help me stay with that. I’m always ready to make holiday projects.
Enjoy your hard work, will try to get motivated myself tomorrow or Monday. Have to dig out couple quilts and warmer clothes. Happy weekend

We have been hard hit with rain over the past couple of weeks but our weather generally stays fairly mild. Hope you get some decluttering inspiration!

I am so ready for the holidays this year! I need to do a little decluttering but I am happy that I get to relax and go to everyone else’s house for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. I love to host but it takes a lot of work no matter how organized you are! Now I have to figure out what I’ve shoved up in my secret gift area (the back of my closet) and start making a list of what else I need to buy… YAY!
