This chocolate chip strawberry shortcake recipe is sure to be a crowd pleaser! Such a pretty dessert that’s perfect for those summer BBQs or picnics!
One of the best things about summer is all of the fresh berries, and strawberries are one of my favorites. I am also a huge chocolate lover, and this recipe combines my love of both! You really can’t go wrong with chocolate, strawberries, and whipping cream!
Chocolate Chip Strawberry Shortcake
These chocolate chip strawberry shortcakes are super easy to make and they taste so good – especially when they’re fresh right from the oven! My kids love putting them together and they’re always a crowd pleaser. Give them a try for your next summer party. Or just because. 🙂
Chocolate Chip Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients
- 3 cups sliced strawberries
- 1-2 tbsp sugar {optional}
- 2 cups flour
- 3 tbsp sugar {2 tbsp + 1 tbsp}
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup melted butter + 1 tbsp {divided}
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chocolate chips
- whipping cream
Instructions
-
Pre-heat oven to 375 F.
-
Place strawberries in a small bowl and sprinkle with 1-2 tbsp. sugar. Cover and chill in fridge.
-
In a large bowl, combine flour, 2 tbsp sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine whipping cream and ½ cup melted butter. Stir into dry ingredients and a batter has formed. Fold in chocolate chips.
-
Grease a baking sheet and drop approximately ⅓ cup of the batter onto the sheet. Brush with remaining butter and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Bake fro 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool.
-
Once cooled, but biscuits in half. add berries and whipping cream to the bottom halves and top with the biscuit tops. Top with additional whipping cream and berries if desired.
Of course, a little extra whipping cream, never hurt. {You can find the recipe for homemade whipping cream HERE.} Pile it on and then top with a few more strawberries!
Long live summer!
