Hey guys! This month I am finally going to be working on putting together a home tour for you. I’ll be showing you some individual rooms throughout the month {including our new kitchen!} and will do a big home tour at the end with all of the links. You will then be able to easily find things under the Home Tour button at the top of the blog and I will try to remember to add to it as we go {because we all know that home improvement projects are never ending, right?}.
Today we are going to be starting upstairs with Matthew’s room and looking at some boys bedroom ideas. Boy’s rooms are always fun so I thought that it would be a good place to kick things off!
Both of the boys are lucky to have really large bedrooms and walk-in closets. It makes for great storage space while still leaving lots of floor space to play {and make messes!} Since their bedrooms are so large, we also get away with not having to have a playroom. 🙂 You can find more posts on kids’ room organization here…

How to Organize Kids’ Rooms
Last summer we did a bit of a mini-makeover in this room and, although I showed you a few little things, I didn’t end up doing a full post on the bedroom. I was actually waiting until I finished up the window treatments but, as you can see, they are still in the planning stage.
One of the most used updates in the room is this shelving unit from Ikea. It was very inexpensive and has been a great place for the boys to keep all of their beloved Lego sets. {You can read more about all of our Lego organization HERE}. Although the room can look like a total disaster during the day, this storage unit makes it pretty quick to clean up {and yes, they have to clean up every night!}. You can find more details on this unit and the rest of our Lego Organization here…

I created this art station a couple of years ago and did a few changes to it last year to make into more of a homework station since the boys are getting a little older. Both the desk and the stools are from Ikea. This is used every day and has held up really well over the years. Check out the following links for more info…

I still want to do something with that one long wall but there are still quite a few household projects ahead of it on our “To Do” list. One day though! 🙂

Ummmmm that wall of lego creations?! That is just little boy HEAVEN right there!!
Jenn Lifford says
Yes, the boys are a tad Lego obsessed!

I love looking at boys rooms – I have two boys myself! Love your son’s room and that sputnik ceiling light is gorgeous!
Jenn Lifford says
Thanks so much Heather! 🙂 Gotta love those boys!
Kelly says
I love the shelves with bins under them!
Jenn Lifford says
Yes, those work perfect for the Lego storage and can easily be adjusted if we need them for other things later down the line. And, they were really inexpensive which is a definite bonus! 🙂
Pino says
I love that color you used. Can you please tell what that is. Thanks
Jenn Lifford says
We actually painted it about 7 years ago and don’t have any of the paint left. There are actually 2 colors in there – a darker blue along the window wall and a slightly lighter blue on the rest of the walls. I know that the paint was Ralph Lauren from Home Depot but that is all that I can remember. I’ll see if I can find it somewhere. Sorry!
Suzan says
Not only are those rooms perfect ( sputnik lighting ♥ ) I can’t believe the size of their rooms!!!
Beautiful job !

Jenn Lifford says
Yes, they both have huge rooms!! They are now starting to appreciate that more as they get older1 😉

I am redoing my boys’ room as they have gotten older and love your desk/homework station! Do you know the name of the table/desk that you got from IKEA? It would be perfect for my 2 boys to share!
Thanks! Amanda
Jenn Lifford says
Hey Amanda! The desk comes as separate pieces – you pick a desk top and then can mix and match the legs. I think this is the desk top: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80251141/
I used an Alex drawer unit in the middle for support but you can just add another couple of legs if you don’t need the drawer space. Hope that helps!

Hi, I was wondering about the SOAR bedroom. I am looking for seating for my son’s room. I love the twin size slatted seat with the white metal on the bottom. I was wondering if you knew where I may be able to purchase that. He wants a redo and wants to make our bonus room more of his hangout room than a playroom. Thanks for your help! Your site is great. I wish I had more time in the day!
Jenn Lifford says
Do you mean the daybed? I believe it is from Ikea. You can find the direct link to that SOAR post here: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/a-definitely-indisputably-notg-116678 Hope that helps!

Love the organization. I also love the color on the walls. Do you perhaps know the name of the color? I’m in the process of painting my boys nursery and I really like this color. I hope you can help.
Jenn Lifford says
Sorry! We actually painted it about 7 years ago so I don’t remember the color. I know it was from Ralph Lauren at Home Depot though!
Kim says
Did you find the color of the boys rooms? Thanks!
Jenn Lifford says
No sorry. All I know is that it was from the Ralph Lauren line at Home Depot.
Natasha says
I love the Lego shelves! Do you know which shelving unit you got from IKEA?
Jenn Lifford says
Sorry – I can’t remember the name. I tried looking it up on the website but I couldn’t seem to find them there either. The shelves weren’t really on display in the store {at least that I saw} but they were down in the big warehouse section. You buy the shelves, bins, wall mounts, etc. all separately and then just customize to the size you want. I’m sure they would have something similar if they have discontinued this line.
rachel says
Hello!
Such a cute room….could you tell me the source of the sputnik light fixture?
thanks
Jenn Lifford says
I picked it up at the Urban Barn outlet centre. It was a couple of years ago now so I’m not sure how much that will help you. Sorry!
krystle says
Love this idea. What color did you use for the room and by who?
Jenn Lifford says
Sorry – I have been asked that question a lot and I can’t remember the names of the paint colors! {We actually painted it about 8 years ago now!} There are actually two colors – the main blue and then a slightly darker blue on the wall with the windows. I do know that it was Ralph Lauren brand that we purchased from Home Depot.
Jessica says
What bedroom furniture is this? The bed, toy chest, book shelf etc?
Jenn Lifford says
It’s an old set that we got at The Bay (It’s a Canadian department store if you’re not from here!}. It’s probably about 10 years old but pretty much looks new. Sorry that’s not very helpful to you!
Lori says
Where did you get those mesh baskets with the chalkboard label?
Jenn Lifford says
They’re from Ikea and then I just made the chalkboard labels. 🙂
