Yikes! March is almost over and I am WAY behind on posting my Household Organization Diet tasks for the month! We are right in the middle of our kitchen remodel right now so time for blogging has been tight, but I promise I have been working on my tasks and will eventually get around to showing you everything. I have cleaned the washing machine, cleaned the dryer, and now it’s time to talk laundry room organization…
Our “laundry room” is actually the passageway from our main floor living space to our basement. Along the hallway, is also a door to the garage so I also use this space as a mudroom for the boys. {I’ll post more on that when I post about our front entry organization.} It’s obviously quite small but I love that I at least have a dedicated space for laundry that can be closed off from the rest of the house if needed. I tried my best to get some decent photos but there is absolutely no natural light in there and the lights throw off a strange orange glow in the photographs.
The laundry room recently got updated with some new paint {Cumulus Cloud from Martha Stewart} and I tiled the backsplash with some marble tile that we are planning to use in the kitchen as well. I’m sure it took me three times as long as it should to tile but I was pretty excited that actually I did it all by myself! 🙂
I like to keep the counter top fairly clear for folding laundry, but I do have one basket for a few supplies: Mrs. Meyers {lemon verbena} hand soap, Caldrea laundry detergent that I use for our bed linens, and a glass container with some wooden laundry pins.
On the other end, I use the laundry tin for garbage and all of the lint from the dryer.
We installed the cabinets above the washing machine a few years ago now and I’m not really sure what we did without them! The one above the washing machine holds all of our laundry supplies. Although I have tried a few other green laundry detergents, I am partial to the Norwex detergent. It’s a little bit more expensive but you only need to use about a tablespoon of powder so it lasts a long time. It has gotten rid of our stinky washing machine syndrome and is one of the only detergents that doesn’t give Dave a rash. I also always add some vinegar to the wash as a fabric softener {and it is great for getting rid of stinky smells!}
I use a cork board on the inside of the cupboard to hold a stain guide or any other laundry care labels that I need to keep.
The other cupboard holds our water filters, some rags, and a couple of bins with smaller rags and all of our light bulbs.
I purchased this under the sink organizer a few years back from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It works great for adding shelf space around the plumbing.
Since the laundry room is not always the most fun place to be, I thought that adding a colorful, inspirational print would be make things just a little bit brighter!
I always like to keep a laundry bin right by the washing machine for any dirty laundry that I find lying around when I am doing my nightly clean-up. I had a couple of the DIY chalkboard labels left over from Matthew’s room, so I tied one on to the hamper with some twine.
I also just picked up this sign from Home Sense {Home Goods in the States} and it works great for hanging any items up that I don’t want to put in the dryer.
So there it is! One more room cleaned and organized!

I love your site just came across it through Clean Mama, I stopped what I was doing and went into my laundry room and cleaned my washer and dryer. Feels great and it wasn’t on my radar. I love organizing and cleaning my home with chemical free products and am a fan of the Norwex products. Thank you for sharing.

Oh to have such a pretty laundry room, mine is total utility, even when it is in perfect shape (which is rare), it is ugly. Oh well, at least it is inside. Thank you for sharing yours.

lol! I guess we should just be thankful to have laundry in our homes. I remember having to drag everything to the laundromat when I was in university and it was terrible! 🙂

Love your laundry room, excited to see the kitchen. We are doing ours right now, what is the name/brand of marble subway tile you used? I am looking for something just like it!
Thanks!
Jenn Lifford says
Sorry! I have no idea what the brand is of the subway tile. I purchased it at Home Depot though if that helps at all! Hope you find some tile that you like. Here’s the kitchen: https://www.cleanandscentsible.com/2014/05/white-kitchen-reveal-2.html

I have been stalking your entire blog over about the last 45 minutes, and just wanted to comment ans say WOW!!! you are one crafty amazing blogger!!! I chose this post to comment on, because I have been eyeballing that marble subway tile at Home Depot for a while now, and it is lovely to see it installed!! great job on that!!! I have also been eyeballing the matching 12 x 12″ marble tile and I am absolutely using it on my bathroom floor, and installing it myself in an upcoming bath re-do…. your DIY wall has helped seal the deal for me, that this tile will look AMAZING!!!! I am now off to look at all of your Organizational Diet posts… so I will be on your blog for a good while longer! THANKS for sharing!

Where did you get the laundry soap tin basket/bucket/container? It is soooo cute. I need one in my life.

I got this one years ago from The Bay but I’ve seen very similar ones recently at Home Sense {Home Goods if you’re in the States}. Good luck with your search!
