So this month I am working on organizing the boys’ rooms as part of my Household Organization Diet. Although I am just focusing on the organizing part right now, I have a feeling that a couple of mini bedroom makeovers will be happening soon! Here are some of my favorite boys’ rooms that I have found around the blogosphere…
I hope you are able to find some inspiration for your own spaces!

- Apart from the obvious use for sleeping, determine what other activities your child will be using his room for. Will he be playing there? Will he need a space to do homework? Does he like to have friends up to hang out? Try to have a designated area of the room for each function.
- If your child often has friends over for sleepovers, consider a trundle bed or bunk beds.
- Get your child involved in the planning of their room as much as possible. Older children may have a good vision of what they would like while younger children can help with colors and a general theme. Have them help with a craft or easy DIY project for their space.
- Be creative with storage needs and get rid of all toys, clothes, etc. that are no longer being used. If your children are more involved in coming up with storage solutions, they will be more like to actually use it! {You can find lots of storage ideas HERE}.
- Children {and their likes and dislikes!} can change quickly so make sure that your room design can grow with your child. If you are designing your room around a theme, use inexpensive artwork, decorative pillows, and other accessories that can easily be changed up without breaking the budget.
- Make the space more personal by including photos, handmade projects or artwork, equipment or objects from favorite hobbies, etc.
- Don’t limit yourself to the children’s section when shopping for decor. Mix and match vintage pieces, re-purpose old furniture, and come up with some creative ideas for using and transforming every day items.
- Keep safety in mind especially when designing for younger children. Book cases, dressers and other freestanding items should be secured to the walls. Place favorite toys within reach so that you are not encouraging your child to find creative ways to get up to that top shelf. Ensure that dresser knobs are all attached securely. Cover radiator and electrical outlets for younger children. Use blind safety devices to secure cords and install a window guard at the bottom of the window.
Have fun with your planning!!!

Great inspiration. My boys have bunk beds – and changing the sheets on the top bunk it such a pain. The room is quite small, so I am trying to make both a functional and appealing space. Thanks for the tips.

Would you happen to know where the comforter is from in the Restoration Hardware picture. Love it! Thanks for the ideas ☺
Jenn Lifford says
It was from Restoration Hardware as well. 🙂

Does anyone know where you can get the ceiling light as picture in the *sam & Jack* Room?
Jenn Lifford says
Try Barnhouse Electric – they have lots of similar styles. They room design is from Pottery Barn so I would guess that the light fixture was from there too.

love the boys rooms you featured!!!- 2 questions:1. Any chance you’ll have time to do a similar post on girls’ rooms any time?(in your free time, haha)
2. How can we affordably frame such large pieces of art, as shown in these rooms?what are your tips?
Jenn Lifford says
I’m a mom of boys so I don’t get a chance to look at girls’ rooms that often but it might be nice change! Large artwork is such an inexpensive way to add impact to a room! If you are looking to frame out posters or other artwork, Ikea has very inexpensive frames and I have also got some good deals at Home Sense {Home Goods if you are in the States}. The artwork is also very easy to DIY -you can frame in a canvas for a few dollars – I also love that they are so easy to hang! You can see how I did one here…

Hi, do you know what the colour is on the walls in the boys bedroom with Sam and Jack in big letters? I really like the grey and want to try and get a match.
Thanks.
Jenn Lifford says
No, sorry I don’t. That room is from Pottery Barn but they generally use Sherwin-Williams colors. I would guess Functional Grey.

LOVE the shark room! Can you tell me where you found the California picture? Also the Shark on the wall? My son was born in CA and loves sharks. We now live on the east coast, so I would like to bring a little of CA into his room.
Jenn Lifford says
Sorry, that is just from a round-up post so it is not actually my bedroom. The photo is from Restoration House Baby and Child so pretty much everything in the photo is likely from there. The post was done a few years ago now though, so I am not sure what would still be left in stock. That sign would be really simple to DIY though! 😉

Can you tell me where the shelves are from I’m looking for shelf ideas to display my sons million Lego sets.
Thanks
Jenn Lifford says
They’re from Ikea and were pretty inexpensive. I think the whole wall and buckets was around $100. They’ve held up great though!

Hi! Any chance you know where the plane and helicopter art are from?
Jenn Lifford says
No, sorry I don’t. The post is over 5 years old so it would probably be pretty hard to track them down. You could probably find some cool ones on Etsy though!
