Happy Canada Day!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and I hope my Canadian friends are all enjoying the extra day off today! The weather around here has been beautiful and we have had a couple of relaxing days hanging out by the pool. I expect that today will be more of the same. 🙂
With all of the nice weather, we are finally able to spend some time out on the patio and I am excited that I will get a chance to use my new little caddy and mason jars…
With all of the nice weather, we are finally able to spend some time out on the patio and I am excited that I will get a chance to use my new little caddy and mason jars…
The caddy was actually an old planter of ours that I had re-finished a couple of years ago. It added a nice pop of color to our patio but, after two years of being left out in the rain, it went from this...
The wood on the bottom of the little crates had actually started to rot out so I ended up tossing those and was just left with the main caddy. Yes, it was definitely time for a new makeover!!
The caddy got a good sanding job and a new coat of Caribbean Blue FAT Paint. I just loved this blue when I saw it in the store and knew that I would have no trouble finding a project to use it on. I then wrapped some twine around the handle and added a chalkboard sign to the front {since I see many different uses for this in the future!}.
I spray painted the mason jars with a frosted glass and painted the lids in the same FAT paint. I then gave everything a couple of coats of sealant and they were good to go! The frosted mason jars work well in the caddy but also look pretty all lit up with tea lights.
You can even add some twine if you would like to hang them…

Happy Canada Day! This is the first I’ve heard of frosted paint but I love it!

You can also put rubber bands from top to bottom around the jars and then spray paint them with the frosted paint. Gives them a whole different look. I’ve made vases for gifts like that and they turned out beautiful. Then paint them with the sealant to keep the paint from scratching off.

Great idea!

Awfully cute and great idea to use the FROSTED paint for these and painting the rings for a cute display!

Such a great project. I love the little crates inside it. Think we might have to make some of those also, maybe put some potting soil and a hens/chicks succulent in them. We have lots of those.
The colors you used are so great, summery, happy. Love em all and the frosted jars with the aqua is pretty.
We like to make caddies in different styles, colors, using different wood, input different ideas into them so yours will be great. The blackboard on side is so cute. Sure glad I saw this on a linky party. Happy summer.

Where do you get the frosted paint, please?
Jenn says
You can find the frosted spray paint at any home hardware store in the spray paint section.
Dawn says
Just beautiful!
You said you used sealant on the jars after they were sprayed….what kind of sealant did you use and is it sprayed on or brushed on?
Does it keep the frost from being scratched or nicked?
Jenn Lifford says
Yes, it is just a sealer that comes in a spray can and it’s just to help the paint from getting scratched. You could skip it depending on what you were using them for. 🙂

I am very interested in knowing if you spray painted these on the inside or outside of the jar. I live in florida and need a trick to make the color tints stay. I am seeing more and more people say spray paint. now I need to know if I do this on the inside or outside
Thanks so much. Love this idea!!
Jenn Lifford says
I did those on the outside! 🙂
Mary says
Where do you buy the frosted spray paint?
Jenn Lifford says
You can typically get it wherever regular spray paint is sold – either at home supply stores or larger craft stores such as Michaels. I think I got mine at Canadian Tire.
Deborah Doris Billman says
Does Frosted paint hold up outside? I want to hang some frosted mason jars from my plant hooks for Christmas with lights in them. there is a small overhang but not totally protected.
thanks
Jenn Lifford says
That sounds pretty! I think they should be fine. I had mine outside through the summer so they did get some rain. I’d just make sure there wasn’t any sitting water in them for longer periods of time.
