10 Minute Decorating Ideas for Summer
Welcome to the summer edition of 10 Minute Decorating! Today we’ll all be sharing some simple outdoor decorating ideas that reflect that more relaxed summer vibe that I love. You can find all of the beautiful projects from my blogging friends at the end of this post. They’re all quick, easy, and add that pretty summer touch! But first, some simple summer tablescape ideas from me!
How to Put Together the Perfect Summer Tablescape
Summer is my absolute FAVORITE season of the year! I look forward to it all year. The weather, the more laid back schedules, the fresh fruits and veggies, evenings on the backyard patio – I love it all! {well… except the mosquitos!}. We also love BBQing and having our meals outdoors. Our patio is east facing so I can get some morning sun while having my breakfast and enjoy the cooler shade once the later afternoon hits.
I really enjoy putting tablescapes together so I thought I’d share my tips to create a pretty summer tablescape in no time. Easy-peasy!
Pick a Color Scheme.
I went with a blue, green, and yellow color combo. The blue was picked up from the rest of the patio, the green tied in to all of the beautiful greenery around us, and the yellow added a little extra pop of color.
Shop Your Home.
Take a look around your home and gather up any items that fit with your color scheme. Don’t be afraid to mix things up patterns and textures. I only had 4 plates and 4 napkins of the same pattern but was looking for a table setting of 6. It’s an easy fix though – just alternate the patterns and switch the napkin placement so it looks intentional. I actually really like the variation!
Create a pretty flower arrangement.
Flower arrangements don’t have to be expensive or elaborate to make an impact. I separated this inexpensive flower bouquet from our local grocery store into two mason jars and added some extra greenery from our yard to fill things in.
To dress up the mason jars a bit, I added some sliced lemons and limes to cover up the stems. It’s super simple but I love the look! Once you’ve finished your dinner party, rinse the stems and transfer them to a regular vase with water. Save the sliced citrus and use it to clean your microwave and garbage disposal after clean-up.
Add some lighting.
Add some candles, twinkle lights, or string lights to your table or eating area. We have some solar twinkle lights that hang from our umbrella when it gets dark and I added a couple of candles as well. It’s not particularly dramatic during the daylight but looks so pretty as the sun starts to go down. I’m going to be doing a little night tour of our patio next week so you’ll get a better idea then. 🙂
Dress up the Table with Drinks.
Make some fruit infused water with some co-ordinating colors. They’re lots of fun to play around with and taste really good!
You can also purchase some drink cans for a functional {and delicious!} pop of color. I picked up these lemon drinks because I loved the packaging and was happy that they tasted as good as they looked!
So are you ready to get decorating those outdoor tables? If you don’t have a patio, you can always just move the part indoors. Just have some fun with it and see what you can come up with. I hope you enjoyed these summer tablescape ideas!
