For the past few years, we have done up a fun Christmas breakfast on December 1st to kick off the Christmas season. This also happens to be the same day that our little Elf on the Shelf, Paint, first makes his appearance so it is now officially called our Welcome Elf on the Shelf Breakfast {you can see last year’s HERE}.
This year, December 1st happened to fall the morning after Matthew’s sleepover birthday party, so we postponed the breakfast a bit and ended up having it for dinner instead. Breakfast foods are always more fun for dinner anyways! {There was also a small panic when our elf did not appear as scheduled but thankfully the search party was able to eventually track him down!}
The table was set …
…and the antler ears that I always make the kids wear were ready {along with a few other Christmas treats}.
I pulled the ideas for our fruit platter from these Healthy Christmas Food Ideas.
The tree was just some thin apple slices with a strawberry for the star, some raspberries for the ornaments and pretzel sticks for the trunk.
For the Santa, cut a large marshmallow in half and place a banana slice between them. {If you are not going to be eating these right away, dip the banana in lemon or orange juice to avoid browning}. Top with a strawberry and small marshmallow. I used a couple of chocolate sprinkles for the eyes and an M&M for the nose. Skewer on a stick for a fun and healthy fruit pop!
Our main course was this pancake tree. Just whip up a bunch of pancakes of various sizes, stack them all together on a skewer and top with raspberry and M&M ornaments and a strawberry star. Don’t forget to surround it with whipped cream snow! 😉
And, of course, our little elf watched it all!
{you can find the book page wreath HERE}
It’s nothing really fancy, just a fun Christmas tradition that we enjoy doing each year! So whether or not you have a little elf that shows up at your home, a Christmas breakfast is always a great way to spend a little extra time with your family during the holidays. We also usually do up another one on Christmas Eve morning! 🙂
Enjoy the Season!
